CNY's finally over! (it is in my books, so none of you come and give me the crap about how it's supposed to last for 15 days, unless of course you wanna persuade the govt. to give us a 15-day holiday)

honestly, my CNY really hasn't been much of a blast this year. I was having a cough, so none of that bak gua or any other chinese new year goodies, since all of them will probably kill you if you have them while you are unwell. On top of that, I find myself growing more and more distant from my cousins as the years go by. It's really quite sad, thinking of how close we were when we were younger, only to let our different paths in future life build this huge barrier between us. I guess the only good thing about this Chinese New Year was the surprising increase in angbao money profits. My relatives are suddenly like, investing in me or something -.- There actually wasn't a SINGLE miser this year for me to get absolutely pissed with, so it was really quite a pleasant surprise.

Of course, the best part of Chinese New Year this year was the time spent with the 4K peeps, shopping together for clothes and what not. It really does not take much for me to get really happy spending time with this bunch of great people, and I'm starting to assure myself that, after my parents, it's them who come next, not any relatives or whatnot. I mean, we're all already coming up with ideas how we should spend the next reunion dinner with each other instead of our relatives, and honestly, I would absolutely love being able to do that, even if our parents would probably murder us and then ground us for like, 99 years.

I know how my parents constantly remind me of how important it is to be close to my relatives and especially my cousins, since I don't have any siblings, and once my parents are gone, they will be the only forms of kin that I would have. Yet, whatever crisis I forsee myself going through in 10, 20 years to come, I find it much more logical, and way more comforting to think that it would be someone I've met over these past years - someone who I have come to call a friend - who would be there to help me, instead of one of these cousins whom I feel really aren't that close to me anymore

Some of you will probably think that I'm some emotionless freak who can't even bother getting close to my very own cousins and relatives, but what can I say? It's Raffles which I've learnt to call my home, and all the friends I've met whom I've come to treat as my true family out of home.

And I dare say I'm proud as hell of such a fact.

quote from shanzhi's blog(since it really tells the story of my CNY this yr): i hope theres going to be the class reunion dinner on saturday. at least theres something to look forward to.
